Jullian Kolstee

Jullian Kolstee has been improvising for 8 years. He is the coach of the UBC Improv team, and director of the improv program at Carson Graham Secondary. Jullian has played in the Canadian Improv Games from 2004 to 2009, in !nstant Theatre's Conservatory, Young and Spontaneous Festival, and Next Act Festival, and is the youngest player in Vancouver TheatreSports League's Rookie League.

Drawing from his roots in improvisation, Jullian has expanded into the theatre arts as a stand-up comedian, spoken word poet, technical designer, director, and most significantly as a playwright. Recently he has directed for the Vancouver East Cultural Centre’s Ignite Festival, and has had his plays developed and read by the Vancouver Playhouse and the Arts Club Theatre Company.

Aside from the obvious creative and artistic benefits, Jullian believes his experience with improvisation from the age of 13 provided him with the life skills, social skills, and attitude to compete and succeed in any environment. His goal is to pass on this kind of experience to his students by having fun, developing courage, and being in the moment; improvisation at its core.
